Week Nine: Is it Impolite to PowerPoint?

Don't forget that you all need to bring at least 2 copies of our collaborative rubrics to class today.  When you join rcampus and click on the link to our rubric (on last week's blog post), you should have the option to add this rubric to your rubric.  When you print, ensure you have room for comments and the peer on whose PowerPoint you are grading. . .

I have graded all of the journal 1-5 assignments that were submitted in WebCT. . .please don't forget to use the submit button even if the content is on your blog.

Tonight: We will be grading PowerPoints in grade level teams.  It will give you the chance to share with peers in the same grade range and maybe even get some cool ideas for how to integrate technology into your future classrooms.  Hopefully, all of the TaskStream narratives will have feedback on them.  I am collaborating with on of my peers to help me assess the TaskStream narratives.  His name is Mark, so you might see some comments from mrounds5 on your GoogleDoc. . .don't panic, he is working with me.  We will also discuss the Copyright/Internet Safety assignment and how we are going to accomplish this!

This Week's Question:  Would your effort change if this class were P/F instead of a letter grade?

  1. Good question. The temptation to slack off would be great. However, all of our work reflects on us through our blogs and the NETS so it behooves us to turn in fabulous work. My effort would be the same.

  2. Honestly, no. It's just a part of who I am to do everything to the best of my ability no matter what. I have always been like that even with P/F classes at community college.

  3. No my effort would not change if this was a P/F class. I know that this is for my career and I need to put my best effort into it.

  4. Maybe. I would probably make sure I met all the requirements and not stretch beyond. Let's be honest, we all have a million other responsibilities...on the other hand, Amanda has a good point. If our blog shows all of our artifacts, it needs to be our best work! So that's why I say maybe.

  5. um, that is actually a hard one to answer. I guess I would probably have to say no because either way I still think I would try just as hard if it was a graded class.

  6. I have never actually taking a pass/fail class so I have no idea how I would act... but I would probably still strive for my best effort because I know that this tech. knowledge I'm gaining is useful for my future teaching career

  7. No.. My effort would be the same as now. I want to do my best even if its a p/f class. it is a personal attitude.

  8. No I don't think that it would matter if this were a P/F class. I would still have to do the work to pass, so either way it doesn't matter.

  9. Well, I know that I would still work hard to make sure that I passed, and I hate turning in bad work, but I might have a slightly different attitude because I might feel that I only had to do the minimum to pass.

  10. my effort would not change at all because no matter what, i always try to do the best work i can!

  11. My effort would not change! I always try my hardest in school!

  12. Nope !! It wouldn't matter at all

  13. I would give the same amount of effort as I have all semester.

  14. No because either way I need to pass :)

  15. No It would not make a difference! I always try to do my best in everything, so either way I would put my best effort in = )

  16. No my effort wouldn't change because I try to do my best work when ever I do an assignment. I still would have to complete them and that is 99% of the battle. Once I know what I am doing I don't have a problem getting my projects completed.

  17. yes, i would not try as hard if it was pass fail, i definitely work harder for A's!!!

  18. I would say a little bit of both. I think I would if it was something not as interesting. I would say no because I like to perfect things, that is just how I am

  19. Probably would but would depend because some teachers end up making the "pass" harder than trying to get a good letter grade.

  20. I think my effort would not change regardless. I going for my middle level credential. I already have some experience in the classroom. I love to teach and I want to become the best educator possible. This course is for my personal growth. Not for a grade. I already have my BA anyways

  21. I don't think so. I think the grade is up to you. When you don't have a grade you need to make sure you do well enough to pass, while you are doing the work you might as well try as hard as you can...you have to do it anyways. So, the answer would be not change at all. I would do my work the same way.

  22. It wouldn't change my effort because at this point in my educational career I enjoy completing assignments and participating in class because I know it will contribute to my success as a future teacher.

  23. I would not change my effort in this class if it were changed to a P/F format because I like to put forth my best effort in everything I do. I like the saying "anything worth doing is worth doing well." I would continue to do my best if this was a P/F class :)

  24. haha...I love this question. Even if it was a pass or fail class, I would still have to do the work in order to pass, so it might as well be work that I am proud of. I am one of those students who NEVER misses class. However, if this was a p/f class, I have to say that I would have missed this week to celebrate my birthday :)

  25. I don't think so. I find myself putting the most effort into the assignments that I find interesting and just enough effort into the rest. That probably wouldn't change. Luckily, I'm interested in learning new ways to use technology so this tactic is working out ok for me so far.

  26. The effort I put into the class would not change if it was P/F.

  27. I would still submit my best work and pass with shining stars.

  28. I*m not really sure? I also have never taken a P/f class. Does it require deadlines? haha

  29. No my effort would not change if the class was P/F
